About Us

 

 

St. Clair Family Martial Arts was founder in 2002, by Master Robert W. St. Clair, Jr.  Classes were taught at Active Fitness located at 436 Central Avenue in Oak Hill, West Virginia until 2013 and then moved around to various locations in Oak Hill, Danville, and Comfort, West Virginia.

 

On, September 19, 2013, St. Clair Family Martial Arts opened a new location at, 1171 Short Creek Road in Racine, West Virginia. Classes rotate Thursday night one week & Friday night the next week. Jr. Class 6:45 - 7:15 PM & Adult Class is 7:15 - 8:30 PM.  I also offer Private Lessons (Per my work schedule) at an addition cost.  At the Racine location I offer the following:

 

  • Karate

  • Kung Fu

  • Kenpo

  • Ju Jitsu

 

To begin Martial Arts Training at St. Clair Family Martial Arts you must be 

at least 5 years old.

 

We do not require a contract, but we do require a contact form and a release of liability form to be filled out on all students before they are permitted to train. All students are required to be a member of  the West Virginia Warrior Virtue Society.

We have a per class fee due at the time of class, and a fee for private lessons (Per my work Schedule) due at the time of lesson.

 

We accept Cash and Checks Only

Master Robert W. St. Clair, Jr.

 

 

 

About Master Robert W. St. Clair, Jr

 

             Master Robert W. St. Clair, Jr. began studying martial arts when he was thirteen years old under John Maynard (Champion Karate) he then went on to study at the old YMCA in Beckley, West Virginia, under the late Grand Master (Shihan) Tracey Cook, founder of Ju Chikara Do Martial Arts, and the late Master Paul Dilland. Under their tutelage, he learned Shotokan Karate Do and Judo. He was also fortunate to study under Master James Goode. Master Goode is a respected teacher of Pai Lum Kung Fu, and a Master Instructor in Shotokan Karate and Chi Lin Chuan Fa Kenpo.
 
            In his mid twenties, Master St. Clair studied under Grand Master (Sigung) Edwin Szeto. Sigung Szeto emigrated from China with his family to the United States. Sigung taught him his family system of Chung Fu Pai Gung Fu and later adopted Master St. Clair as an inner door student. He continued to study and became a Sifu in the Chung Fu Pai method of Gung Fu.
 
            Master St. Clair has been fortunate and had the privilege of studying under respected and knowledgeable Master Instructors such as: Master Acie Toler, Master Sherwood Brown, Grand Master Stephen Hatcher and Grand Master (Shihan) Robert Calhoun, who is a respected instructor and known for his mastery of Ju Jitsu and no nonsense approach to self-defense. 
 
            Master St. Clair currently holds the rank of 7th Degree Black Belt in Shotokan Karate, Sifu in Chung Fu Pai Gung Fu and Pai Lum Kung Fu / Kenpo, and was inducted into the 2010 United States Martial Arts Hall of Fame, as Outstanding Master , and in 2014 as Instructor of the Year, in 2015 Master St. Clair was inducted into the U. S. A. Martial Arts Hall Of Fame and awarded the Diamond Life Award & 2016 World Union Karate Hall Of Fame receiving Master Of The Year Shotokan & 2017 receiving the Lifetime Achievement Award. Master St. Clair is an active member of The American Karate Association & Alliance.  He is founder of the Yong Shi Long Pai Chuan Fa / Kenpo, West Virginia Warrior Virtue Society. He is founder and Master Instructor of the St. Clair Family Martial Arts Center, Operating his facility in Racine, West Virginia with students ranging from five to sixty years of age.  Master St. Clair continues to compete along side his students and all have fared well in their competitions, winning numerous Medals and Honors in their respective age groups. Master St. Clair began teaching when he was 18, honing his teaching skills for many years.
 
            Master St. Clair has a passion for training martial arts champions in all facets of Japanese and Chinese styles, including, Kata (forms), and all types of weaponry such as: Sword, Nunchaku, Sai, and Bo Staff to name a few. Master Robert W. St. Clair, Jr. is a walking encyclopedia of Martial Arts knowledge, and at the age of forty-five, is frequently called upon by many instructors beyond his senior for his wisdom.

 

 

Our Dojo

 

Our Dojo is located approximately 9 1/2 miles From Marmet Exit 89. You follow Lens Creek Road/WV-94  and we are on the right side of the road, you can't miss us we are right beside of a car wash.

 

From Route 119 you take the Daniel Boone Pkwy/WV-3/WV-94 for approximately 13 1/2 miles then you bear to the left at the WV-3/WV-94 split and go approximately 5 tenths of a mile and the Dojo is located on the left side of road by the car wash.

 

Our Dojo is also the Headquarters for West Virginia Warrior Virtue Society. If you would like more information on the West Virginia Warrior Virtue Society please feel free to contact us and ask.  Master St. Clair Founded the West Virginia Warrior Virtue Society in 2009.
